July 17 | Executive Order Mandates Face Masks Indoors

 

On July 16, Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued an Executive Order that requires individuals in Colorado to wear a non-medical face covering over their nose and mouth in public indoor spaces.

Requirements are mandatory for wearing face covering over nose and mouth when entering or moving within any Public Indoor Space:

  • Applies to all individuals 10 years of age and older;
  • Business can refuse service or prevent an individual who does not wear face covering to enter public indoor space.
  • Business owners, operators and managers must post signs at entrances instructing individuals of their legal obligation to wear a face covering under this Executive Order;
  • Includes those using or waiting for transportation services (taxi, bus, light rail, ride-sharing, etc.)

Exceptions defined as:

  • Children under 10 years of age;
  • Individuals who cannot medically tolerate a face covering;
  • Individuals who are hearing impaired or otherwise disabled where the ability to mouth is essential to communicate;
  • Individuals who are seated at a food service establishment;
  • Individuals who are exercising alone or with others in immediate household;
  • Temporary removal of face covering while receiving personal services (spa, salon, etc.) or for identification purposes;
  • Public safety personnel (law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs);
  • Officiants during religious service or individuals delivering speech for audience or broadcast.

Counties that complete certification for Protect Our Neighbors may choose to be exempt from these requirements.

This Executive Order will remain in effect for 30 days.
