Embalmer/Decedent Care Team - Wheat Ridge, CO

Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary is located in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on the grounds of Mt. Olivet Cemetery, which was consecrated in 1892 and is the largest cemetery in Colorado with 392 acres. St. Simeon Cemetery, located in Aurora, Colorado, was consecrated in 2004, and together these entities serve the Catholic Community of the Denver metro area, its parishes, missions, apostolates, and the general public regardless of religious affiliation. The mortuary itself was opened in 1981.

The position available is Embalmer – Decedent Care Team. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with a degree in Mortuary Science from an accredited school or university preferred. A current license, or the ability to obtain licensure in the state of practice, is required along with 1–3 years of relevant work experience. Applicants should have a positive and supportive attitude toward the Catholic Church and her teachings, knowledge of Catholic faith, rituals and traditions, and working knowledge of funeral services, ceremonies, and case management. They must understand embalming and cremation processes, equipment and procedures, as well as mortuary laws and compliance requirements. Candidates should be able to work independently, use technology proficiently, communicate effectively, and possess compassion, integrity, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. A valid Colorado driver’s license is required. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and move 75–100 lbs., push and pull up to 300 lbs. with a cart, stand or sit for long periods, operate office equipment, and use appropriate PPE when preparing for embalming and cremation.

Job duties include receiving and preparing decedents for final disposition with care and dignity, assisting families in alignment with Catholic faith traditions, verifying identity and documenting personal property, handling caskets and containers, performing case analysis and embalming documentation, and carrying out restorative procedures when applicable. Additional responsibilities involve handling hazardous materials safely, performing administrative tasks such as verifying information and completing forms, maintaining case management boards, overseeing prep room and crematory inventory, cleaning and maintenance, monitoring emissions for compliance, communicating with staff and external contacts, inspecting products, and complying with federal and state regulations. Other duties may be assigned by management.
