The CFDA /CAC Combined Convention is the premier event where funeral directors, cremationists, embalmers and cemetery professionals from Colorado can learn about trends and techniques to enhance their operations, improve their practical skills, enhance customer care, engage in valuable networking and idea-sharing activities, and see the latest industry products and services.

The convention features more than 10 hours of continuing education sessions taught by nationally-recognized educators and local experts, and also offers a showcase of products and services used in the funeral and cemetery services profession.

The purpose of the exhibits is to complement education sessions by enabling registrants to see, hear and evaluate the latest developments in equipment, supplies and services that are recommended for use the funeral and cemetery services industry. The exhibit hall will host more than 20 displays as well as refreshment breaks, lunch and reception.

A limited number of exhibit booths were sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is the objective of the Convention Planning Committee to maintain an appropriate ratio between convention registrants and vendors. If exhibit booths are not available, a waiting list will be developed in the same order. Registration statistics will be monitored frequently and more exhibit booths may be added through the end of August. The Convention will refund all monies to any applicant for whom space is not available.

Why a Combined Convention?

Over the past several years, we hear the question time and again why the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and the Colorado Association of Cemeteries (CAC) continue to schedule combined conventions. After all, in the past, each organization had their own convention and there never seemed to be a problem.

The view of both organizations on the combined convention issue has been essentially the same since our first combined convention in 2001: Combined conventions make economic sense for both organizations. Neither has had a negative convention cash flow experience since 2001.

Vendors prefer to exhibit for multi-organization gatherings, again for economic reasons. Many vendors will not exhibit at a single organization function; when vendors choose not to participate, then sponsorship potential decreases.

The combined conventions also allow for funeral directors and cemeterians to network, to listen to presentations not usually available at single organization conventions, and to discuss issues of common concern in a relatively open forum.

The end result is a learning experience for everyone in attendance, and a better program because of vendor participation and sponsorship. Further, with potentially larger numbers of attendees at a combined function, fees and room rates at hotels are generally less than would otherwise be the case.  Both organizations win.

As we all know, the general public sees no distinction between mortuary and cemetery functions – both are involved in the profession of caring for families, and families generally see our profession as one profession, not two.

So when you are in the process of deciding whether or not to attend our next Combined Convention, September 13-15 in Pueblo, please know that your decision is important not only to the families you serve, but also to our funeral service community.
