Active Status
Individuals certified by the Colorado Funeral Service Board are required to attend at least six (6) hours of continuing education each year to demonstrate continued competence in funeral service. These individuals must provide evidence of CE credit with their annual certification renewal to maintain their CFSB certification at Active status.
Inactive Status
Inactive Status individuals are not required to obtain or provide evidence of continuing education each year.

Retired Status
Certified funeral service professionals over the age of 65 are eligible for Retired Status and are required to obtain documentation of three (3) contact hours of continuing education earned each year.

Emeritus Status
Certified funeral service professionals over the age of 70 are eligible for Emeritus Status and are not required to obtain continuing education each year.

Guidelines for Lapsed Certifications & Reinstatement
Certifications must be renewed on an annual basis and are due by January 31 each year. After January 31, renewals for the current year are subject to an additional $25 late fee.

Persons lapsed for less than one full year may reinstate their certification for the current year upon payment for the current year plus the $25 late fee.

Any person who has lapsed for less than two full calendar years will be entitled to reinstatement without reapplication, provided such persons pay for the current year plus pay an additional $75 reinstatement fee.

Active status requires evidence of six (6) contact hours of continuing education as prescribed by the Board for each of the years of lapsed certification.

Any registered MSP, CFD, CET, CFD/CET or INT who has lapsed for a period exceeding two calendar years (registration cycles) will be required to reapply for certification in a manner identical to those applying for certification for the first time. Reapplication will include submission of education transcripts, proof of licensing in other states or completion of funeral directing and/or embalming cases, etc., as may be required of new applicants. New applicants and reapplicants are granted Active status and require six (6) contact hours of continuing education each year.
